So this is the start of something I'd like to do alongside normal blog posts. I'm currently going through Psalms and making notes on them. I've read most of them previously but I haven't taken notes on them by myself thoroughly before. How I'm going about this is in the morning I will read through the psalm, write down a verse that stands out to me and think about psalm and its overall meaning. Later on in the day, normally just before or after dinner, I will sit and take some notes on each "section". Finally before I go to bed I'll read it again and add anything else. If I think I haven't completely understood it then I'll do the same one again the next day. Short disclaimer: I'm not claiming to be some expert, this is just what I have understood from each psalm and what it means to me, if you have another thoughts, please please do comment and we can all share ideas, thoughts and perhaps other verses you feel it links to. Also, I'm directly copying from my notes, just making them make a little more sense, feel free to ask any queries you have in the comments if I dont make sense :)
I've lost my notes from Psalm 1 so when I find them, then I'll do that but for now I'll start at no. 2
I've never written notes in order for others to understand them so bear/bare with, hopefully I'll improve :/

1. Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? 2. The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, 3. “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” 4. He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. 5. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: 6. “Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.” 7. “I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8. Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. 9. You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’” 10. Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. 11. Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling. 12. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. |
v 1~ "why do the nations rage?" here it is talking about the enemies of God, "and people plot a vain thing?" my margin say this can be translated as worthless or empty thing, so it reminds me of the empty or minor threat or accusations people make, perhaps against things you believe as a Christian or just generally. Pair this with verse 4 and you are reminded that The Lord is way more powerful than anything someone can say or do to you. I was thinking about this on the bus today and that our life on earth is so small comparison to the life we will have in heaven and any things that 'go wrong' in life are a minute fraction compared to the blessings and glory in heaven. v 7~ "you are my son, today I have begotten you" when we believe and become a Christian, this is the day that God can say this to us with joy as we are born again into his family Furthermore, in verse 12 "kiss the Son lest He [the Father] be angry" shows that you obey God and believe that God sent his Son to die for you or face the judgement when he comes again and days to follow. Lastly, verse 12 says: "Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him" and this both applies to on Earth and in Heaven and its so reassuring to know that when we have a rough day down here, up in heaven God can see you whole of your life and eternal life to follow and in perspective, that rough day is a speck on the horizon, even if it may feel like the worst thing in the world at the time. Greater things are yet to come, Proverbs 3:5-6 says "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths" Don't just look at what you can see for God can see so much more and so trust him to know what's right for you |
I hope this has helped someone, I'm very excited for tomorrow's, Psalm 3 is so relatable (not the word I was looking for but good enough for 8:30pm after a long day) and I just love it :)
